Chuck Mellon's Thai-Live!
Questions and Answers on the Thailand Event

I've never been to Thailand before, how do I get around? –

When traveling to the hotel from the airport, you can catch a taxi right outside on the walkway from the airport exit. To the Royal Cliff Hotel (Pattaya) from the airport should cost no more than 2,500 Baht (about $75 USD).

What language do they speak and will I be able to communicate with the Thai people?

Thai people speak Thai – a difficult language with words used in rising and falling tones to denote different meaning. Most people at the hotel will speak and understand a modicum of English. You will be able to get around fine at the hotel speaking English when you speak slowly and succinctly so they the Thai people can understand you. Also, when traveling to the market, beach and nightclubs you will have a native speaking associate with your group.

How far is the Bangkok Airport to the Hotel venue? –

You will fly into Bangkok's Suvarnibumi International Airport where all International flights arrive. You will get a taxi at the airport or we can arrange a pick-up for you if you let us know your flight schedule. The trip to the Hotel is about 2 hours. It's only 110 Kilometers, and the travel is nearly all expressway (motorway). You will head South toward Pattaya-Jomtien Beach.

When should I come? I don't want to miss anything. –

Since our formal event registration will occur on Monday at 12:00 Noon, it is possible (but not recommended) to come Monday early morning. However, if you do, you will be very tired from your trip and will possibly miss the first evening of trading (Monday evening). So, we suggest that you schedule to arrive no later than Sunday, the day before the event. You'll want lots of time to enjoy the magnificent Royal Cliff Hotel and tour the local surroundings, we're sure. Also, you may wish to stay part of the following weekend, although the formal workshop activities will be over on Friday, after the market closes (that's actually Saturday at 4:00 AM).

What will I need to bring for the workshop itself? –

For the workshop, make sure to bring your laptop computer. We will have wireless access for all participants during the trading session and you will be trading live, so bring whatever you need to accomplish this during the workshop.

What is the hotel like and what should I bring for activities?
What type of clothes should I bring and what is the climate like that time of year?. –

Thailand's climate is hot, hot and wet, hot and wetter. You will be coming at the perfect time of year when the climate is simply hot (before the annual rains). You should pack loose-fitting, comfortable casual clothing. Men will not need a sport coat for any occasion and ladies will not require any evening wear other than "dress-casual." Make sure to bring shorts and "T" shirts for the daytime – it;s hot. And, don't forget your bathing suits.
Light dresses, skirts and blouse with slacks are fine for evening. The hotel will require men to wear long slacks and have shirts with a collar at dinner. Ladies can dress accordingly. For those playing tennis or other sports, there are tennis rackets and equipment rentals on site for your use and pleasure.

If I need anything or forget to pack something is it possible to acquire it there, perhaps? –

Sure! The shopping in Thailand is fabulous! ALL of the modern conveniences are here and available for you. Most medicines can be purchased without prescription and everything you can think of is available here for purchase at a very reasonable price. Please ask our staff to assist you if you forget anything important to your stay.

This is going to be a mini-holiday for the Mrs. and me. What is there available to do after the event that we would find interesting?-

Well, without knowing exactly what type of activities you like, that’s a difficult question. So, let me say that whatever you do in your home country, you can do here and a whole lot more. There is every type of beach and outdoor activity known to man available here. Thailand is a country built on hospitality and the availability of sports, recreation and nightlife activities. We have fabulous restaurants here (one of the best steakhouses in the area is right here at the Hotel) incredibly romantic sunsets off our beach, world-class shopping and our world-famous "Million Year Old Dinosaur Park." There are aquariums, racetracks, private aircraft rental facilities, 16 fabulous, world-class golf courses (one designed by Jack Nicklaus) great tennis facilities (the ladies Lipton Cup is played here annually at this Hotel), bowling and dozens of magnificent Buddhist temples (called wats) for your sightseeing pleasure. About the only thing lacking here is a great multi-lingual library with millions of books to read. So, bring your own books when you visit!
